The European Union fish market. Poland below average in consumption, above average in exports

The consumption of fish and seafood products in the European Union increased in 2020 and 2021. Household spending on fish and seafood in the EU-27 increased by 7% in 2021 compared to 2020. This trend has continued since 2019 – informs EUMOFA (European Market Observatory for Fisheries and Aquaculture Products) in the latest report.

There was an increase in the consumption of fish and seafood (by live weight) by 2%, to 13.33 kg per person in Poland in 2020-2021 . The average consumption of EU residents in the same period fell by 7% to 23.28 per capita. The highest consumption of fish and seafood was recorded in Portugal (57.67 kg per capita), Spain (44.21), Denmark (35.17) and France (32.56).
