by Marek Grzybowski

Symphonic concert “Freedom and Solidarity”, organized in hall G-08 in the Gdynia CRIST shipyard. This is proof that the shipyard can also become a space of culture.

The Ukrainian Freedom Orchestra took part in the concert. The Orchestra was established in April 2022 on the initiative of Canadian conductor Keri-Lynn Wilson with the support of the director of the Metropolitan Opera in New York, Peter Gelb, and the director of the Teatr Wielki – Polish National Opera in Warsaw, Waldemar Dąbrowski.

The orchestra is made up of musicians from Ukraine, refugees forced to leave the country for safety reasons. These are Ukrainian musicians who are members of European orchestras and musicians from Ukraine. The funds raised during the concert tour are used to support artists in need from Ukraine.

The Orchestra operates under the patronage of Olena Zelenskaya, the first lady of Ukraine. Her words: “do not become accustomed to our suffering” have become the motto of the symphony orchestra.
