GDAŃSK UNIVERSITY as the HUB of the Research Solutions for the Economy and Society Conference

The fifth Economic Convention at the Association of Universities in Gdańsk named after Daniel Fahrenheit (FarU) took place on Thursday, September 19, 2024. About a hundred people from business and science, administration and parliamentarians took part. The convention was also attended by companies and universities that are members of the Baltic Sea and Space Cluster.
This conference was organized at the University of Gdańsk, at the Faculty of Biology of the University of Gdańsk. In the main hall there are skeletons of various animals of the world, as well as prepared fauna specimens, including from the Museum and Institute of Zoology of the Polish Academy of Sciences.
There is a display case showing human evolution, presenting the skulls of our ancestors in various stages of achieving our current form. You can also see fossils from hundreds of millions of years ago, and in front of the building – various types of boulders, from 1.5 billion years ago, for example, brought to Poland by a glacier and left several thousand years ago.
There is a unique Museum of Amber Inclusions. In the museum you can see various organisms and plants embedded in amber resin about 40 million years ago.
The guests were welcomed by Prof. Piotr Stepnowski – Rector of the University of Gdańsk, and Dr. Zbigniew Canowiecki – Chairman of the Economic Convention at the Fahrenheit Association of Universities in Gdańsk, President of the Employers of Pomerania.
Scientists spoke in the substantive part of the 5th Economic Convention at the Association of Universities in Gdańsk named after Daniel Fahrenheit. Their following presentations were an introduction to the discussion:
1. The status of quantum cryptography in business was presented by prof. Wiesław Laskowski – vice-rector of the University of Gdańsk
2. Sustainable blue economy – this was the topic presented by prof. Dorota Pyć, president of the Gdańsk Seaport Authority
3. Computer design of molecules friendly to humans and the environment – this was the topic discussed by prof. Tomasz Puzyn
4. Oceanographic research using the r/v Oceanograf vessel was presented by prof. Agata Weydmann-Zwolicka
5. Immune system cells in personalized therapy and cancer diagnostics – this was the title of the speech by prof. Natalia Marek-Trzonkowska
6, “Computational linguistics in customer opinion research and hate speech in social media” was characterized by prof. Anna Bączkowska
After the last presentation of the Convention session, Dr. Elżbieta Sontag invited the conference participants to visit the Faculty of Biology.
