Gdańsk University of Technology – Autonomous and unmanned boat
By Marek Grzybowski
Scientists from the Gdańsk University of Technology have constructed an autonomous, unmanned boat, Hornet, packed with specialist equipment, designed to protect and inspect Polish offshore installations.
Satek was equipped as part of a project financed by the Horizon 2020 program. A team of scientists from Gdańsk University of Technology, led by Prof. Łukasz Kulas, developed the technical architecture of the sensor system. Gdańsk University of Technology also developed the software. The scientists propose using the unmanned ship to monitor critical installations, such as offshore wind farm installations.
– Our university plays a key role in the green transformation of Poland, one of the most important elements of which is the construction of offshore wind farms in the Polish Baltic Sea – said Prof. Krzysztof Wilde, Rector of Gdańsk University of Technology.
The university is a partner of the NATO DIANA project and the first so-called living lab in Poland will be created on the PG campus, a place for the exhibition of the latest technologies and inventions of the defense sector, developed by scientists and military from NATO member states – the Rector of the Gdańsk University of Technology also said.
– One of the solutions presented in the program will be the autonomous boat “Hornet” – added Prof. Krzysztof Wilde, Rector of PG.
