Port of Gdansk – Agro Terminal will be built
By Marek Grzybowski
Port Gdański Eksploatacja (PGE) will build 9 grain warehouses. PGE’s storage capacity will increase fivefold. In total, PGE will be able to store 152 thousand tons of bulk goods per year. PGE’s transshipment capacity will increase from 0.7 million tons to 2.9 million tons per year. The investment value will be approximately PLN 400 million.
The investment will be carried out by Port Gdański Eksploatacja (PGE) and the Port of Gdańsk Authority S.A. (ZMPG). This will ensure that state control is maintained over the development of conditions and capacities for transshipment and storage of grain.
The project will include the construction and reconstruction of infrastructure on the land side (railways, roads, storage and warehousing areas). The water side will include the reconstruction of quays, reinforcements and deepening of the bottom to serve larger ships. New cranes and reloading equipment will be purchased.
Over the past five years, the Port of Gdansk has doubled its grain handling capacity from 2 million tonnes in 2019 to 4.3 million tonnes in 2024. Last year, grain handling reached 3.1 million tonnes. In the period January-October 2024, 2.4 million tonnes of grain were handled. Grain is mainly exported through the Port of Gdansk.
The Port of Gdansk Authority will allocate over half a billion zlotys for the reconstruction of quays and railway lines in the inner port over the next three years.
