GDYNIA celebrates its 99th birthday

The main celebrations of the 99th birthday of the City of Gdynia took place on February 10 at the Maritime Poland Monument. They were attended by, among others, members of parliament, Gdynia and Pomeranian local government officials, representatives of the Polish Navy, uniformed services, students of Gdynia schools and residents.

Gdynia is of great importance to Poland due to its strategic location. Gdynia has a large universal port and a NATO ship base. Gdynia has repair and production shipyards and maritime industries. Gdynia has the largest Marina on the Baltic Sea.

 

The ceremonial session of the Gdynia City Council took place in the evening of February 10, 2025. During the session, the title of honorary citizen of Gdynia was awarded to the writer, historian, prof. Norman Davis. Eugeniusz Kwiatkowski Medals were presented to: Professor Maria Jolanta Sołtysik – architect, historian of architecture, full professor at the Gdańsk University of Technology, a third-generation Gdynia resident, Leszek Kajetan Kilanowski – sailor, sportsman, teacher and promoter of sailing, Janusz Jarosiński – long-time president of the Port of Gdynia and an effective manager.
