Gdańsk University of Technology – scientists will design a vehicle for identifying sea mines

Scientists from the Gdańsk University of Technology will design and build a demonstrator vehicle for identifying sea mines and hazardous objects. The project has been named TUKAN. The Polish government has allocated a grant of over PLN 8.6 million for the project.

The project will be used by the Polish Navy. Prof. Jerzy Kowalski from the Institute of Shipbuilding is the Project Manager for the “Development of an Underwater Semi-Autonomous Vehicle for Searching for and Identifying Sea Mines and Hazardous Objects” project. Prof. Lech Rowiński is the originator of the autonomous underwater vehicle and a leader in technological solutions for naval mine hunters. The vehicle for searching for and identifying sea mines will be built at the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering and Ship Technology at Gdańsk University of Technology.
