The Port of Gdynia will double the capacity of the fuel terminal

By Marek Grzybowski
The Port of Gdynia Authority S.A. has signed an agreement with Budimex S.A. for the implementation of the “Expansion of the Liquid Fuel Handling Terminal (SPPP)” project. This is one of the most important infrastructure investments at the Polish port. The investment will improve the country’s energy security. The Port of Gdynia will be able to accommodate tankers with three times the deadweight capacity of the current terminal. The annual capacity of the Liquid Fuel Handling Terminal will double upon completion of the investment.

Construction works will be carried out without interrupting the operation of the existing reloading station. The investment value is PLN 174 million gross. Documentation, including obtaining a building permit, will be completed within 450 days. The terminal’s full transshipment capacity is scheduled to open in the third quarter of 2028.

Major investments underway at the Port of Gdynia:
Intermodal Terminal (under construction) – The new terminal, financed by the CEF instrument, includes approximately 2.7 km of new tracks, 30,000 m² of maneuvering areas, and infrastructure to increase rail’s share of cargo handling. Completion: H2 2026.
Onshore Power Supply (OPS) Infrastructure – The port is developing a shore-based power supply system for ships. A 3.5 MW OPS point is already operational, and additional locations and new energy infrastructure are in the works.
Renewable Energy and Energy Modernization – The renewable energy infrastructure is being expanded: photovoltaic installations in warehouses and port buildings, electrification of the technical fleet, replacement of heat sources with heat pumps, and preparations for the implementation of energy storage facilities.
