Port of Gdynia, OT Port Gdynia in the Finnlines Green Corridor

Finnlines celebrated six months of operation of the route from Hanko via the Port of Gdynia to Bilbao. The green corridor from Finland and Poland to the Iberian Peninsula is the Biscay line, operated by FinnLines ro-ro vessels. The regular service launched in June 2025. This weekly ro-ro service connects the Port of Gdynia directly with Belgium, the United Kingdom, Spain, and Finland. The vessel is operated at the OT PORT GDYNIA terminal.

The meeting was attended by, among others: Emil Rojek – Deputy Voivode of Pomerania and Anna Galic – representing the Marshal’s Office of the Pomeranian Voivodeship, as well as representatives of forwarding companies and terminals from the Port of Gdynia. Finnlines was represented by Commercial Director Merja Kallio-Mannila, Line Manager Blasco Majorana and Managing Director of Finnlines Polska Sp. z o.o. Rafał Kwapisz. The Port of Gdynia was represented by Piotr Gorzeński, President of the Management Board of the Port of Gdynia Authority, Katarzyna Gruszecka-Spychała, Vice-President of the Management Board of the Port of Gdynia Authority, and Jerzy Majewski, President of the Management Board of OT Port Gdynia.

The Biscay Line strengthens the connection between Northern and Western Europe. Finlines’ ro-ro service aligns with the European Union’s strategy of shifting cargo from road to short sea shipping. The service is dedicated to goods transported from Finland and Poland to and from Belgium, France, the United Kingdom, and Spain.

The service is operated by three new-generation hybrid Ro-Ro vessels. The vessels can transport Ro-Ro cargo, breakbulk, containers, vehicles, and oversized cargo. Finnlines also offers 80-foot Mafi trailers with built-in rails, specifically designed for transporting trains, wind turbine components, and other special cargo. Each vessel can carry up to 420 trailers or 2,500 vehicles.
Finnlines’ modern hybrid vessels utilize technologies that reduce CO₂ emissions by up to 90%. Energy efficiency is improved through the use of lithium-ion batteries, solar panels, and optimized hull design. Finnlines’ vessels consume significantly less fuel than the traditional Ro-Ro vessels used previously.
