The keel of the frigate “BURZA” of the “Miecznik” program was laid

The keel of the frigate “BURZA” of the “Miecznik” program was laid in the presence of representatives of state authorities, command staff of the Polish Armed Forces and the Polish Navy, as well as representatives of the shipbuilding industry and local government.
Present at the ceremony were, among others, Deputy Minister of National Defense and Secretary of State Paweł Bejda, Undersecretary of State at the Ministry of State Assets Konrad Gołota, Vice President of Polska Grupa Zbrojeniowa S.A. Jan Grabowski, Inspector of the Navy Vice Adm. Jarosław Ziemiański, Commander of the 3rd Ship Flotilla Cadm. Andrzej Ogrodnik, and Head of the Maritime Technology Command at the Armaments Agency Commander Piotr Skóra. Marcin Ryngwelski, President of the Management Board of PGZ Stocznia Wojenna, served as host for the ceremony.

The first frigate of the “Miecznik” program, ORP Wicher, is under construction. The ship has been under construction since August 2023, with the participation of Polish content. The bow hull was built at the CRIST shipyard dock. At the end of November, the bow hull was transported by water from the CRIST shipyard to PGZ Stocznia Wojenna on a special pontoon.

The PGZ-Miecznik Consortium, composed of Polska Grupa Zbrojeniowa S.A. and PGZ Stocznia Wojenna sp. z o.o., is responsible for the project. Foreign strategic partners in the construction of the frigates for the Polish Navy include Babcock, Thales UK, and MBDA UK. Among the contractors is CRIST S.A., which is building the blocks and sections of the future frigates. All frigates will operate as part of the Combat Ship Squadron of the 3rd Warship Flotilla. The frigates will be based at Gdynia Naval Port. The frigates will enter service in 2029, 2030, and 2031, according to the construction schedule.
