BLUEDOTS PROJECT Germany Living Lab: “Blue Economy for the Common Good”

On 18 and 19 June 2026, the Bluedots Germany Living Lab was held in Kiel. The Baltic Sea and Space Cluster was represented by Prof. Marek Grzybowski and Kasia Sędek of DELTA STUDIO. Within the Capcity Building, BSS CLUSTER representatives provided individual discussions with partners about the hubs’ activities aimed at developing networks and supporting the blue economy.

Over two days, participants explored strategies for digitalisation and sustainability, took part in practical workshops and site visits, and built new connections with European organisations working across fisheries, aquaculture, tourism, marine technology, and related sectors. The programme featured a keynote by Christian Felber, co-founder of the Economy for the Common Good, and participants also had the chance to experience the opening of Kieler Woche, the world’s largest sailing event and one of Germany’s biggest public festivals, on 19 June.

During the seminar, a company presented its support for the protection and restoration of marine life. A significant part of the meeting was the participation in a cruise and presentation of ecological farms suitable for marine life. In both parts of the Cologne meeting, the exchange of experiences among meeting participants was important, particularly the activities of small businesses, research institutions, and maritime clusters. The Baltic Sea and Space Cluster shared knowledge on protecting the Baltic Sea’s marine environment, developing ecological food production, ecological tourism, and the use of electric vessels in maritime transport, tourism, fisheries, and food production.

During the meeting, workshops were held on the following topics:
• Digital Sovereignty in the Blue Economy (Nicole Wolf, Nachhaltig Digital)
• Changing Mindset in the Blue Economy (Dr. Anna Channing, Atrium Environmental)
• Cooperatives in the Blue Economy (Hans-Gerd Nottenbohm, innova eG)

An important part of the meeting in Kiel was the Visit to the Oceanbasis.de and Free admission to events at the Waterkant Festival.
