Metsä opened a service center in Gdańsk. Pomerania becomes a window to the world for Scandinavian Business
Metsä – a company from Finland, operating in Pomorskie for 11 years, opened a service center. Metsä serves customers and manages logistics services for the EMEA region from Gdańsk, said Barbara Merchel-Czech, director of the Promotion Department of the Pomeranian Development Agency.
The ceremonial opening of the Metsä center was attended by: Wiesław Byczkowski – Deputy Marshal of the Pomeranian Voivodeship; Piotr Borawski – vice-president of Gdańsk, Piotr Ciechowicz – vice-president of the Pomeranian Development Agency, Marcin Grzegory – Deputy Director at Invest in Pomerania – dealing with introducing foreign investors to the realities and conditions of operation in Poland, Paulina Śmigielska – BSS Investor’s Support Project Manager at Invest in Pomerania, Alan Aleksandrowicz – president of InvwestGda – Gdańsk Economic Development Agency, prof. Marek Grzybowski – president of the Baltic Maritime and Space Cluster. The hosts represented Mika Joukio – CEO of Metsä Board, Eeva Kokkonen – Supply Chain Director EMEA, Metsä Board, who hosted the inauguration ceremony of the official start of Metsä’s reinvestment in Gdańsk.

– The newly established Center provides customer service and logistic support for the EMEA region. A team of over 100 people, including 74 customer service specialists and 26 logistics specialists, serves over 1,000 customers in 36 countries and cooperates with approximately 150 suppliers. Many team members are foreigners, and the entire team speaks the 13 languages in which the company provides its services – says Eeva Kokkonen, Supply Chain Director EMEA, Metsä Board.
The centralized hub allows for further development in the field of supply chain support, digital services and harmonious value creation for international customers – explained the business model of the center in Gdańsk Mika Joukio. The center is located in Gdańsk, because there is a strong university base with well-educated staff, graduates of the University of Gdańsk, Gdańsk University of Technology and other Gdańsk universities.
Invest in Pomerania is a non-profit initiative of the local government, coordinated by the Pomeranian Development Agency, which helps foreign investors to implement investment projects in Pomerania.
