Prof. dr hab. Piotr Stepnowski – Rector of the University of Gdańsk 2024-2028

Prof. dr hab. Piotr Stepnowski will head the University of Gdańsk for the next four years. The decision was made by the Electoral College on January 25, 2024; in a secret ballot, the College entrusted him with the function of Rector of the University for the term 2024-2028.

107 electors voted in favour of electing prof. Piotr Stepnowski as Rector for the term 2024-2028, six were against, and nine abstained.

‘I would like to thank the academic community for their trust and all the votes you have given entrusting me with this function. For me, the University of Gdańsk is not only my Alma Mater but, above all, an inseparable part of my life. I am glad that so many members of our academic community shares my vision of the University,’ said  Rector, prof. Piotr Stepnowski.

‘We have already done a lot; together, we have rebuilt the brand of an open, accessible, friendly, developing and scientifically strong university, but also a university that respects the good tradition and the memory of those who co-created it and built its foundations. However, there are next challenges ahead of us – further promotion of scientific excellence, joining the trend of modern academic teaching, continuous support for various manifestations of internationalisation, and strengthening our strategic partnerships – SEA-EU and the Fahrenheit Union of Universities. I am convinced that what we have achieved so far provides a great space to creatively and courageously overcome these challenges and to build a University that we love and are proud of!’ – said Rector, prof. Piotr Stepnowski.
