WISTA Poland New Year’s meeting

By Marek Grzybowki

The New Year’s meeting of the ladies of the WISTA Poland association had its charm, as usual. On the top of the cliff in Gdynia, in the Różana restaurant, ladies operating in the maritime business met. Wanda Dobrowolska led dynamically. The guest of honor at the meeting was prof. Dariusz Filar.

WISTA Poland has been operating in Poland for over 30 years, and 2023 was full of events related to this anniversary. There were traditional visits to companies and ordinary “girly” meetings. Many of them took place at the Maritime University of Gdynia. BCT and PRS were visited by ladies from WISTA Poland in 2024.
Meetings with the president of the Polish Chamber of Forwarding and Logistics are held regularly. The specifics of the work of the repair and production shipyard were learned at the invitation of the management boards of the Nauta and Conrad Shipyards. The highlight of 2023 was the WISTA Poland Gala celebrating 30 years of activity in Poland.
There are more and more women in the maritime economy and there will be even more. Women have been a large group of students at economic universities for a long time. After graduation, they started working in virtually all types of maritime business.
Ladies have been coming to shipping, forwarding and agency companies, shipyards and cooperating companies, fishing and fish processing companies for many years. Women constitute an important part of port management boards, both large and small, as well as port companies.
– The activity of women in the international maritime business is very large and visible – said Dorota Lost-Siemieńska – director of the IMO Legal Department during the WISTA Poland Gala.

Female students are beginning to dominate technical studies. In shipyards, ports, shipping and maritime logistics, more and more women hold managerial positions, manage projects, finances and ship repairs.
Many of the women work in banks, insurance companies, deal with maritime law, maritime logistics, economics and management. Women dominate fleet management companies, they deal with crewing and finances for ship operators. The ladies are active in the maritime administration.
The declaration shows that they will soon spread their wings and become widely involved in the development of businesses related to offshore wind energy. Therefore, an important element of last year’s activity of WITA Poland is the creation of WISTA Poland Young – emphasized Wanda Dobrowolska.
