GUT “Development of artificial intelligence in creating a knowledge metropolis” Conference

The conference took place on April 25 at the STOS PG Competence Center. The event was attended by, among others: prof. Krzysztof Wilde, Rector of Gdańsk University of Technology, Beata Rutkiewicz, Pomeranian Voivode, Mieczysław Struk, Marshal of the Pomeranian Voivodeship, Ph.D. engineer Jarosław Protasiewicz, director of OPI-PIB, Michał Glaser, president of OMGGS, as well as representatives of the rector’s college, deans of faculties, scientists and business representatives, including the Baltic Maritime and Space Cluster.

– Cooperation between science, business and the public sector in the area of ​​artificial intelligence is crucial for the pace of innovation implementation, building competitiveness and creating solutions that will bring real benefits to society – said Prof. Krzysztof Wilde, rector of GUT.

The aim of the conference is to tighten cooperation between science, business and local governments in the field of increasingly dynamically developing tools based on artificial intelligence – said the rector, prof. Wilde.

– We support investments in the ICT industry in Pomerania. Pomeranian Voivodeship is one of the leading regions in Poland in terms of innovation and technological development, said Mieczysław Struk, Marshal of the Pomeranian Voivodeship.

– AI is an opportunity for the entire region – says Michał Glaser, president of the Gdańsk-Gdynia-Sopot Metropolitan Area.

Polish LLMs, i.e. language models that were created entirely on the basis of texts in Polish, were presented by Dr. Marek Kozłowski, director of the AI ​​Lab operating at OPI-PIB.

The special guest of the conference was prof. Włodzisław Duch, Polish scientist, specialist in the field of artificial intelligence. He delivered a lecture titled “How to intelligently use artificial intelligence?”

The expert debate was attended by: prof. Włodzisław Duch, Dr. Marek Kozłowski, head of AI LAB OPI-PIB, dr hab. engineer Julian Szymański from the Faculty of Electronics, Telecommunications and Computer Science of the GUT, Stanisław Szultka, director of the Department of Economic Development of the Pomeranian Voivodeship Marshal’s Office, Jakub Kaszuba, president of Think Tank Metropolia. The debate was moderated by Marcin Dybuk, deputy director of the Gdańsk-Gdynia-Sopot Metropolitan Area.

The conference took place on the anniversary of the official opening of the CK STOS PG building and the launch of the “Kraken” supercomputer located at the Gdańsk University of Technology.
