Seatech Engineering completed Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) tests in the CTO model tank

Seatech Engineering informed about an important milestone in a ground-breaking project!

As you recall, on October 12, 2023, an important step towards creating 🌊 🌬 Polish Offshore Wind fleet took place. LOTOS Petrobaltic S.A. (ORLEN Group) has signed a contract with our office for the first Polish CTV design dedicated to transport service personnel on wind farms.

Today we can say – we’ve got the first stage ready🍾🎉. A lot of work is behind us and the project is at an advanced stage so we’re happy to reveal a little how we’re doing.

👉 We have closed the initial design stage. General Arrangements have been approved by the Client and Technical Specification is ready and validated.

👉 We’ve efficiently completed Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) tests on the model tank in Centrum Techniki Okrętowej S.A. (Maritime Advanced Research Centre) foreseeing required vessel’s power.

👉 We are analyzing the concept of dual-fuel (methanol and diesel) propulsion system in cooperation with Wavelength Technology Center. This vessel design will be unique – we haven’t had a methanol-powered CTV unit before❕💫 Ultimately, it will be a hybrid version, supported by a dedicated battery system.

The upcoming CTV will be approx. 30 meters long aluminium catamaran, tasked to transfer up to 24 technicians plus up to 5 crew members, along with the necessary equipment, between the service port and offshore wind farm. In addition, the vessel will provide support for SOVs operating in the area of the farms, thereby increasing the ability to service the turbines. The vessel will be designed to operate at a minimum significant wave height of Hs=1,75 and up to maximum distance of 150 NM from the safe heaven. Maximum speed will be set at 24 knots.

It promises to be a functional and innovative unit, with huge thanks to local cooperation! We’re pleased to contribute to the development of constantly growing Polish Offshore Wind market.
